The house La Mulina in Sesto Fiorentino - Florence, Tuscany - is part of a larger, ancient farmhouse built inside an Etruscan archaeological area.

You are invited to visit us in our 15th century Florentine farmhouse and to experience the authentic Tuscan way of life. Recently remodeled to the original specifications with stone, chestnut beams and cotto tiles, you will appreciate staying in a relaxed, simple way of life that reflects days gone by.

Live in the same neighbourhood which houses the palaces of Renaissance aristocrats who designed houses to escape the summer heat of the city. The area will be a surprise to discover.

Villa Garbi Pecchioli - La Mula

Just one step out our back door and the wiew beyond the olive grove will reveal a 13th century Villa, Garbi Pecchioli which is built over an historic Etruscan burial vault known by the locals as La Mula. It is thought that the Etruscan, whose advanced civilization preceded the Romans, established a Florentine presence about 750 B.C.

The La Mula site gives us our name of La Mulina - the little Mula.

Beyond and framed by the beautiful mountains overlooking Florence, is another famous Etruscan vault: La Montagnola. These final resting places of royalty are relatively recent archaeological discoveries and Mediterranean equivalents of the ancient pyramids of Egypt. Renaissance farmers tales relate the unearthing of numerous treasure from the burial site.

Our location of Sesto Fiorentino is a quiet, safe neighbourhood in the north-western part of  Florence, away from the city centre, yet easily accessible within 20 to 30 minutes by city buses which run by our front door. City buses run frequently from Florence's Santa Maria Novella Railway Station to our home, providing a 20 minute trip.

We are two miles from the Florence-Peretola airport which is 10 minutes by car. If using a car, you are only an hour's drive away from the many wonderful places in Tuscany such as Pisa, Lucca, Arezzo, Siena, Assisi, Cortona, Montalcino (home of the best  Italian wine), San Gimignano, and the Chianti area—all places that are, in one word, the best artistic sites in Italy.

Rome is 3 hours away and Venice is only 2.5 hours away.  If you don't wish to explore by car, there are convenient rail and bus connections to the same places.

We invite you to make our home your home base as you explore the romantic and historic Tuscany area.  It will be our pleasure to make your visit one with lifetime memories!
